As we work on collaborative goals across the state of Illinois, we strive to provide quality expanded learning opportunities for ALL in the out of school time.

Illinois AfterSchool Network (IAN) is the professional membership association for people who work with and for youth during Expanded Learning Opportunities. IAN fosters positive youth outcomes by supporting, developing, and advocating for afterschool professionals and leaders.

The goal of the Encouraging Community Service Participation training is to enable organizations, as well as the people who work for them, to meaningfully engage in community service and positively influence the places they serve. Identifying a precise life purpose for a five-year-old can be daunting, but it is possible to assist them in recognizing emotional and social challenges arising from external influences and support them in creating a positive influence in those aspects. During this presentation, Dr. Sonia Toledo will discuss methods for empowering children and adolescents to identify issues within their communities that resonate with them and develop solutions to effect change while also enhancing their skills in literacy, comprehension, creativity, communication, and other essential 21st-century competencies. How can OST Professionals create inclusive environments for youth enrolled in their programs? Participants of this workshop will be able to define invisible disabilities (conditions that other people can not see) learn why OST professionals are sometimes reluctant to provide accommodations to children with invisible disabilities and be exposed to what it is like to have an invisible disability. This workshop will be beneficial for individuals working in OST programs. There may be children enrolled in their programs that they have not been able to connect with due to the fact they do not have the knowledge or understanding of invisible disabilities. The culture of family influences the social-emotional learning of the child. We will use interactive activities to identify the strength and power of the family unit. Therefore, creating a safe place with healthy relationships where self-awareness and regulation leads to growth in school, home, and community. Each participant will share their SEL perspective and how having a SELF-perspective helps with building the bridge between parents/caregivers, teachers and the community. Creating and Maintaining Gender Inclusive Programming provides foundational approaches for understanding gender identity development and assessing programmatic spaces for gender inclusion. Participants will be provided talking points and activities to improve the culture and climate of their respective organizations, while collaboratively troubleshooting the barriers they encounter during small group practice scenarios. A fun and instructive training called "Planting Seeds for Student Growth" aims to inform teachers, school administrators, and community leaders on the advantages of both traditional outdoor gardening and hydroponic gardening as means of promoting student growth. This course examines the two gardening techniques and gives participants a foundation to design all-encompassing educational opportunities that enable children to develop intellectually, socially, and emotionally.Attending this course will provide you the skills and information needed to develop engaging and creative gardening programs that enable students to grow not just food and plants but also their self-esteem, fortitude, and emotional intelligence.
